TZFM201 Autumn Week 3 Royal Albert Hall SoI

Statement of Intent

The audience for my image set is myself and fellow TZFM201 students and I intend for the audience to feel a sense of vibrancy and geometry. Similar to the images by Mr Martin Smith that have inspired me.

Six architecture photographs from a documentary approach depicting a clear narrative illustrating the exterior of Royal Albert Hall — “the nation’s village hall” built more than 150 years ago amidst the fast-paced metropolitan nowadays. The Hall’s unique circular Italianate architecture, with orderly spaced windows and arched doorways and windows, particularly interests me and forms the focus of this project.

I will capture the images at dusk/night from far to near perspectives in portrait to narrate a journey visiting the Hall. The images will be candid to achieve realistic images in the architecture genre. To capture the Hall’s structural design and interaction with the city, because it shows and contrasts the Hall’s history respectively.

During the process, because of the Hall’s grand size, it was challenging to capture it in portrait so most shots ended up as close-ups. I captured long exposure shots predominantly due to low light and my idea of shooting light trails. The final shot was slightly out of place because it did not match the colour palette, but I intended it to be a close-up shot of the Hall.
